ABORIGINAL SERVICES
Mercy Centre provides a range of services to people from an Aboriginal background. Some of these are specialist Aboriginal services while others are integrated into other services.
Mercy Centre respects the rights of Aboriginal people as the original occupiers of the land and celebrates the contribution of Aboriginal people to society. Mercy Centre
PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Mercy Centre also participates in cross-cultural work in Papua New Guinea. This work includes providing training to local personnel in relation to intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, and psychiatric conditions.
Mercy Centre also works along side local Community Rehabilitation personnel in the villages and towns to establish and then review and evaluate day programmes which include health, domestic and personal hygiene skill development, recreational and vocational components.
We believe it is through providing ourselves with on-going experiences in working across differences in aspects such as culture and religion that we continue to develop our skills to work across the differences in intellectual abilities, psychiatric conditions and various behaviours.
We thank the people of Papua New Guinea for the opportunity to story with them.
